A look at the Defence news 26 September – 1 October

The Dutch Marine Corps and the German Navy Seebataillon unit have completed a 2-week joint training exercise in the Baltic Sea and on land in Sweden and Germany. Cooperation between the two units will intensify in the future in the integrated Netherlands Amphibious Task Group. Exercise Northern Coast was part of this intensification programme.

Dominica dependent on relief from Dutch military personnel

Dutch military personnel are providing relief on the Windward Island of Dominica. Hurricane Maria left residents there with almost nothing. HNLMS Zeeland and HNLMS Pelikaan are providing supplies to the island.

F-35 executives meet in the Netherlands

Netherlands Minister of Defence Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert welcomed to Amsterdam the international partners participating in the F-35 project. The JSF Executive Steering Board comprises the most senior representatives of the 9 partner countries. The steering board meets to discuss the progress of the F-35 project twice a year. The project is currently nearing the end of the development phase.

Measures following mortar shell incident in Mali

Netherlands Minister of Defence Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert announced measures following publication of the report of the investigation by the Dutch Safety Board into the mortar shell accident in Mali. The measures include additional safety checks in mission areas with regard to ammunition and medical support. In an incident in Mali on 6 June 2016, 2 Dutch servicemen were killed and 1 was seriously injured.
