A look at the Defence news 22 – 29 January
Dutch F-16s this week attacked ISIS positions and armoured vehicles. They were acting in support of coalition ground troops. These actions took place near Abu Kamal in the east Syrian province of Deir al-Zour and in the vicinity of Rutba in the province of Anbar, Iraq.
The fighter aircraft assisted ground troops in 8 missions, which included operations over the Iraqi province of Nineveh. Force was used during three of these missions.
EDA director visits Minister Bijleveld
The Director of the European Defence Agency (EDA), Jorge Domecq, paid an introductory visit to Netherlands Minister of Defence Ank Bijleveld-Schouten this week. Among other topics, they discussed the role of the EDA in the recently established EU Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO).
By means of innovative projects and programmes, the EDA aims to improve cooperation between member states in terms of the development of military capability.
