A look at the Defence news 5 – 12 March
Experts from the Royal Netherlands Army Recovery and Identification Service have travelled to Indonesia to advise during the excavation and analysis of human remains. This research is taking place as part of a further investigation into the (partial) disappearance of the wrecks of the Dutch warships HNLMS De Ruyter, HNLMS Java and HNLMS Kortenaer.
No contribution to counterpiracy mission
The Netherlands will this year not contribute a Royal Netherlands Navy vessel to the counterpiracy mission Atalanta, taking place off the Somali coast. The reasons for this are issues with the patrol vessels, personnel shortages and other NATO obligations.
Special guests visit personnel in Dutch Caribbean
Minister of Defence Ank Bijleveld-Schouten and Chief of Defence Admiral Rob Bauer visited Curaçao and Aruba this week to meet with Defence personnel stationed on the islands. Approximately 500 employees are permanently based in the region for military and police tasks.
