A look at the Defence news 27 March – 2 April
Dutch F-16s supported ground troops with an attack on an ISIS logistics depot. That happened in the Syrian province of Hasakeh. The fighter aircraft supported the ground troops in 7 missions. This was reported in the weekly review of Defence operations (21 - 27 March).
As a sign of mourning, in sympathy and respect for French Lieutenant Colonel Arnaud Beltrame of the gendarmerie, flags flew at half-mast at various Royal Marechaussee locations on 28 March, at the time of France’s national ceremony held in honour of the police officer.
Netherlands ends contribution to training mission in Somalia
The Netherlands has stopped supplying trainers to the EU’s military training mission in Somalia (EUTM Somalia). A maximum of 15 military personnel were involved. The reasons for the decision were the scarce capacity in the Defence organisation and what the Netherlands saw as the limited effectiveness of the mission.
