A look at the Defence news 20 – 26 November

Dutch F-16s supported ground troops during 10 missions in the fight against ISIS, in 3 of which force was used. The aircraft came into action above the Syrian province of Deir al Zour. This was reported in the weekly review of Defence operations (14 – 20 November).

Minister Bijleveld: European army won’t help us any further

“I find that the European Union is too inward-looking with regard to its defence and security. We want to do everything ourselves. This concerns me, as it comes at the expense of our cooperation with NATO. And this despite the fact that NATO and the EU are meant to strengthen each other through cooperation.” This was the message from the Netherlands Minister of Defence, Ank Bijleveld-Schouten, during the European Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels.

Dutch Parliament supports new NATO mission to Iraq

The Dutch Parliament supports participation in the new NATO capacity building mission in Iraq. From 12 December, the Netherlands will provide 2 military advisers and 4 civilian experts. If required, their total number may increase up to a maximum of 20.
