A look at the Defence news 12 – 17 February
Last week, 2 members of the Royal Netherlands Army Recovery and Identification Service were awarded the Medal Wojska Polskiego (Polish Army Medal). They were awarded the medal on account of their efforts regarding the identification of Polish soldiers who were killed during the Second World War.
Bijleveld opposes new missiles on European territory
“We need to show that we can defend our territory and are prepared for attacks. But as far as I’m concerned, there should be no new missiles deployed in Europe.” This was Minister of Defence Ank Bijleveld-Schouten’s message during the NATO Defence ministers meeting held on 13 and 14 February in Brussels. Afghanistan and the negotiations between the US and the Taliban were also discussed. Bijleveld commented that the Netherlands will remain involved in the missions in Afghanistan and Iraq.
