Lieutenant General (retired) Hans Couzy has passed away in his place of residence The Hague. He was 78 years old. From 1992 to 1996, Couzy was commander-in-chief of the Royal Netherlands Army.
New mine countermeasures vessels
A consortium led by Naval Group, a French company, will be building 12 new mine countermeasures vessels for the Belgian and Dutch navies. The Belgian and Dutch governments have this week agreed on these plans. The decision is a new milestone in the long-standing maritime cooperation between the neighbouring countries, which spans 70 years.
Military personnel injured in Afghanistan
2 Dutch service members were injured in Afghanistan when the armoured vehicle in which they were seated landed on its side. One was transported to the Central Military Hospital in the Netherlands for further treatment, while the other will remain with the force in Afghanistan.
