A look at the Defence news 18 - 22 September

The disaster relief effort by Dutch, French and German military personnel to the Bahamas has ended. Following this initial assistance, the archipelago will continue reconstruction.

Commodore Ad van de Sande, Commander of the Netherlands Maritime Force looks back on a successful mission: "We were the catalyst that got the assistance started.” A total of 550 Dutch, 50 German and the same number of French military personnel provided disaster relief to Abaco from 11 to 20 September following the devastation caused by Hurricane Dorian.

Special 75 year Market Garden commemoration

Mass airborne landings at Ginkelse Heide, impressive stories and the presence of Royals. These were the ingredients of the special 75 year commemoration of Operation Market Garden. Earlier in the week, the ambassadors of the USA, the United Kingdom and Poland took part in tandem parachute jumps over Groesbeek in Gelderland in honour of the military personnel who fought during Market Garden in 1944.

Norway and Sweden join European Intervention Initiative

Norway and Sweden have joined the European Intervention Initiative. They signed the accession declaration at the Zwaluwenberg estate in Hilversum. In addition, the ministers accepted Italy's application to join.
