During the European Foreign Affairs Council, the EU Ministers of Defence discussed the strengthening of the European Union’s operational capability. The Netherlands Minister of Defence, Ank Bijleveld, called for the vigorous development of the Strategic Compass.
Marines provide support at hospital fire in Aruba
Over 20 marines of the 32nd Raiding Squadron were deployed to fight a fire at a hospital in Aruba. Military personnel from the Savaneta Marines Barracks set up tents with camp beds for evacuated patients, or provided assistance relocating them.
Image analysts broaden perspective thanks to foreign colleagues
Analysts from 306 Squadron joined 11 other NATO partners in exercise Unified Vision from Leeuwarden Air Base. The participants were based at different locations, but they were connected via a network. The training was designed to evaluate and improve intelligence processes.
German-Dutch cooperation takes maritime form too
Germany and the Netherlands have signed a contract for the building of 4 MKS 180 frigates. The Mehrzweckkampfschiffe will be designed by Damen Shipyards. They will be built at German shipyards, while the radars will be provided by Thales in the Netherlands. The building of the frigates illustrates how German-Dutch cooperation is also increasing in the maritime domain.
