3 Dutch army personnel have been awarded the prestigious Lithuanian ‘Warrior of the Year award’. They received the decoration for their heroic and life-saving actions after a major road accident. The award ceremony was broadcast on Lithuanian national television.

Investigation committee into Hawija weapons deployment

The committee that will investigate the Dutch military’s weapons deployment on the ISIS bomb factory in Hawija, Iraq, has been officially established. The independent committee will be headed by the Minister of State, Winnie Sorgdrager. The committee will investigate how it was possible that civilian casualties occurred during the weapons deployment and what lessons can be learned for the future.

HNLMS Schiedam returns from successful deployment

After 3 months, mine countermeasures vessel HNLMS Schiedam has returned from a successful deployment in the Baltic Sea. The deployment was aimed at the clearance of mines and the conduct of exercises with vessels from other countries. Together with mine countermeasures vessels from Belgium, Germany, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Finland and Norway, HNLMS Schiedam formed the Standing NATO Mine Counter Measures Group 1 flotilla. The vessels found 44 explosives.
