The Dutch contribution to Operation Red Cross Flight
334 Squadron, led by Lieutenant Colonel W. Kauffmann, was instructed to carry out 9 flights to Romania to take the goods collected by the Red Cross.
On 27 and 29 December and 2 January, 3 F-27 transport aircraft a day took food and medicines to the airport in the Romanian capital of Bucharest as part of Operation Red Cross Flight. It was the 1st time that the Royal Netherlands Air Force had flown to a country behind the Iron Curtain. The F-27s transported a total of 25 tons of food rations and medical supplies in this air lift.
