Provide Comfort - Operation Haven; the Dutch contribution
The Dutch government sent units from various armed forces Services to northern Iraq under the codename Operation Haven. The army unit operated under the name 11 Engineer Support Battalion and consisted of a medical company, an engineer construction company, headquarters and combat service support company.
The latter was assigned with 3 Alouette III light utility helicopters from 298 Squadron, along with 13 flight and technical personnel and an EOD team. An assigned marine unit comprised a combat service support company, a support company and 2 infantry companies. The Royal Marechaussee supplied 14 personnel for police tasks. 11 Engineer Support Battalion was under the command of Lieutenant Colonel M.L.M. Urlings and the marine battalion came under the command of marine Lieutenant Colonel C.P.M. van Egmond. All Dutch units were assigned to an international task force with its headquarters in the town of Zakho.
