The Dutch contribution after the earthquake in Bam, Iran

On 30 December 2003, a KDC-10 of 334 Squadron of the Royal Netherlands Air Force flew from Eindhoven Air Base to Kerman airport near Bam.

The aircraft flew at the request of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which in turn had received a request from the Netherlands Red Cross. It was carrying 45 tonnes of aid supplies, including tents, blankets and 4 Emergency Health Kits. The Health Kits contained medical supplies and medicine, which could be used to help 40.000 people for a period of 3 months.

The Iranian Red Crescent (sister organisation of the Red Cross) distributed the aid supplies in Bam. The Dutch aircraft also carried a team of Dutch civilian aid workers and 6 German medical specialists. On the flight back to the Netherlands the passengers included 9 Dutch dog handlers and 5 rescue dogs.
