The Dutch contribution to United Nations World Food Programme Iraq Mission
On 26 January 2004, a Fokker 60 of 334 Squadron left Eindhoven Air Base for Marka International Airport near Amman, the capital of Jordan, to carry out food flights for the United Nations from there to Iraqi cities such as Baghdad, Basra and Erbil.
In addition to these flights, the Dutch aircraft was also deployed for evacuation missions and medical flights. Due to the dangerous circumstances in Iraq, the Fokker 60 received additional security measures, such as bulletproof plating and antimissile assets. Over a period of 6 months, 4 consecutive detachments, each comprising around 15 military personnel, conducted 49 flights to Iraq. The Dutch aircraft transported a total of 422 persons and around 40.000 kilos of cargo.
