British-Dutch cooperation between marine units
In 1973, a combined amphibious force, the United Kingdom/Netherlands Amphibious Force (UK/NL AF), was formed comprising Dutch and British marines. This cooperation between marine units is part of the European Multinational Maritime Force (EMMF).
The Dutch contribution to UK/NLAF
The amphibious transport ship HNLMS Rotterdam has been part of UK /NLAFÂ since 1998. This ship has a submergable dock and a helicopter deck. In addition, it has facilities for more than 600 marines with equipment and weaponry. They can be deployed worldwide, including to mountainous and arctic regions if necessary. The Dutch component of UK/NL AF comprises approximately 1,000 men.
