European Gendarmerie Force
The European Gendarmerie Force (EUROGENDFOR) is a multinational organisation for cooperation between police forces with military status. Police organisations from France, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania and Spain are part of EUROGENDFOR. The Dutch police organisation taking part in EUROGENDFOR is the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee.
The EUROGENDFOR police force is made up of approximately 800 military police personnel. It operates for the EU and is mainly deployed to conflict areas. The EU also deploys EUROGENDFOR to operations being carried out under the auspices of other international organisations, such as the UN and NATO.
2013 Chairmanship
EUROGENDFOR is led by the Comité InterMInistériel de haut Niveau (CIMIN). Each participating nation holds chairmanship of the CIMIN for the period of 1 year, on a rotational basis. The Netherlands has chairmanship of the CIMIN in 2013.
EUROGENDFOR was under Dutch command between 2011 and mid-2013.
The European Gendarmerie Force’s headquarters is based in Vicenza, Italy.
