Are you looking for a publication about the military and maritime history of the Netherlands and its overseas territories? You will find more than 70,000 books on this subject in the library of the Netherlands Institute of Military History (NIMH).
Subjects covered by the publications collection
Part of the library collection of the NIMH consists of publications about the Netherlands and the Netherlands East Indies during the Second World War. The collection also comprises a great many books about the Netherlands’ armed forces international operations, the decolonisation struggle in the Netherlands East Indies and the armed forces during the Cold War.
Apart from books, the library also contains 1,750 different journals, annual reports, regulations, theses and miscellaneous documentation.
Finding and consulting publications
Are you looking for a certain publication? You can search the library collection of the NIMH in the Defence libraries catalogue. The NIMH does not lend out books or magazines. You can, however, consult them in the reading room of the Institute. The NIMH does not provide content-related assistance when you are consulting publications.
Making an appointment to consult publications
Do you wish to consult one or more publications at the Frederik Barracks in The Hague? Please complete and send us the NIMH contact form, or make an appointment by telephone on +31 (0)70 316 28 47. Allow at least 5 working days after submitting the titles of the publications you wish to consult.
Information for visitors to the NIMH
The NIMH reading room is located at the Frederik Barracks in The Hague. The reading room is open Tuesday to Friday from 8.15 to 16.45 hrs. Visitors must show identification to gain access to the Frederik Barracks.
