A look at the Defence news 11 – 17 January

The Netherlands and Belgium will together replace their multi-purpose frigates, also known as M-frigates. The name for the new class of replacement ships was recently announced: Anti-Submarine Warfare Frigate (ASWF).

The Netherlands will assume command of SNMCMG1 for 6 months.

Netherlands to head NATO flotilla

The Netherlands has assumed command of Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group 1 (SNMCMG1). Over the coming 6 months, the flotilla will clear explosives in the North and Baltic seas. The commander will also ensure that the flotilla is ready to take part in a military operation whenever required.
