A look at the Defence news 3 - 9 October

The Polish supplier Wagony Swidnica has ceremonially transferred the first of the 77 new railway wagons to the Netherlands Ministry of Defence. The wagons are required due to the increasing relevance of rail transport.

Minister stresses the importance of European defence cooperation

During the Europadebat organised by the Dutch broadsheet het Financieele Dagblad, the Netherlands Minister of Defence, Kajsa Ollongren, asserted that European defence cooperation is a bitter necessity. To stress the importance of such cooperation, the Minister added that it is time to show ambition and to ensure that Europe remains safe. 

International EOD exercise especially challenging in Iceland's climate

During the annual Exercise Northern Challenge held in Iceland, about 30 military personnel of the Defence Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service honed their skills and associated procedures in the field of EOD. The aim of the exercise was to practise disarming improvised and conventional explosives on land and on water. During the exercise, Dutch armed forces personnel worked together with international partners from 16 NATO countries and other allies.
