A look at the Defence news 13 – 18 December
Since last week, the Defence organisation has been flying 11 F-16s to be divested from Florida to Europe in several flights. The aircraft fly to the Azores with two tanker aircraft, and from there they fly to Charleroi, Belgium.
The fighter jets are temporarily held there and kept in airworthy condition until they are handed over to the new owner.
Government responds to investigation into war of independence in Indonesia
"The main and ultimate responsibility for the Dutch operations and the extreme violence (in the former Dutch East Indies) lay with the authorities at the time: the Dutch Government, Parliament, the military as an institution and the judicial authorities.” This is what the Dutch government stated in a second and more comprehensive response to the study ‘Independence, Decolonization, Violence and War in Indonesia, 1945-1950’.
Value of military support to Ukraine approaches € 1 billion
The Netherlands has now provided almost € 1 billion in military support to Ukraine. The Netherlands Minister of Defence, Kajsa Ollongren, sent the House of Representatives an update on this subject. Ukraine also depends on this support to defend itself against Russia.
