A look at the Defence news 27 February – 5 March

For the first time, a group of young women from disadvantaged backgrounds are following a special basic training programme on their island. The social training programme at Suffisant Naval Barracks will provide the young women with better future prospects. This programme is a cooperation between Curaçaoan military personnel, the local government and the Royal Netherlands Navy.

HNLMS De Zeven Provinciën performs important task for the French

Over the past 2 weeks, HNLMS De Zeven Provinciën exercised with the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle in the Mediterranean. This was done within a French Carrier Strike Group. The Dutch air defence and command frigate protected the French fleet against threats from the air. It acted as a so-called ‘shot gun’, the aircraft carrier’s final line of defence. It is an important task that the French seldom leave to a foreign ship.
