A look at the Defence news 10 - 16 July

The Netherlands and Germany are purchasing more than 1,500 light operational vehicles, 504 for the Netherlands and approximately 1,000 for Germany. These so-called airborne vehicles can be used for tactical transport during Airmobile Brigade operations.

Since 2014 that Royal Netherlands Army unit has been integrated with the German rapid intervention unit, the Division Schnelle Kräfte. Germany signed the contract with Rheinmetall Landsysteme GmbH in Koblenz.

Netherlands commits to spending norm at NATO summit

At the NATO summit in Vilnius, the allies all committed to the Defence Investment Pledge. Given the deteriorating security situation in Europe, the Netherlands will spend at least 2% of gross domestic product on defence in the coming years. This investment is required for capacity building so that we can continue to contribute to stronger allied deterrence and defence, and of course to the country’s resilience.
