Netherlands Ministry of Defence receives Sorgdrager Committee report
Minister of Defence Ruben Brekelmans today received the report of the Sorgdrager Committee. This investigative committee was tasked with determining why a Dutch air strike carried out in 2015 in Hawija, Iraq, resulted in civilian casualties.

The committee also identified a number of lessons learned for the benefit of future operations. The independent members were led by Minister of State Winnie Sorgdrager.
The committee’s findings were shared with the House of Representatives today. The government’s detailed response will be issued within a few weeks.
Launched in 2020
Following a Dutch air strike against ISIS that resulted in civilian casualties, an independent investigation was launched in 2020 at the request of the House of Representatives.
