A look at the Defence news 20 – 26 January
On 17 January, Japanese General Yoshihide Yoshida was welcomed in the Hague by Netherlands Chief of Defence General Onno Eichelsheim and Netherlands Minister of Defence Ruben Brekelmans.
Japan’s most senior military officer and Minister Brekelmans discussed the threats and geopolitical developments in the Indo-Pacific. General Eichelsheim had already paid a visit to General Yoshida in April 2023.
Major Netherlands military role on eastern flank of NATO territory
In order to improve vigilance in the area around the Baltic Sea, NATO launched a new maritime mission last week. Among other things, Baltic Sentry must ensure the security of critical undersea infrastructure, such as energy and data cables. The Royal Netherlands Navy is contributing a number of ships to the mission.
