Maritime environmental information
Ships rely on maritime environmental information in order to carry out missions. The Royal Netherlands Navy uses this information to deploy sensors and weapons. The Maritime Environmental Information Centre (MEIC) provides this environmental information.
MEIC provides comprehensive view of environment
Data and specific products allow specialists, MEIC hydrographers and meteorologists with qualifications in tactical oceanography to chart the surrounding environment. The information made available consists of, among other things, current weather information, bathymetric information (measurements of seabed elevation) and seabed surface, sea life and tactical information. With this information, the MEIC gives an overall view of the surrounding environment, providing immediate support to vessels and units.
Hydrographers also have mobile hydrography packages at their disposal, with which they examine unknown underwater territory, allowing units and vessels to operate safely.
