Can I use text and images?

  • You must cite the 'Netherlands Ministry of Defence' as the source and indicate whether the content has been altered in any way. What about copyrighted text and images, such as photos and videos? The use of copyrighted material is prohibited and could result in legal action.
  • If you use all or part of a text, you must clearly state that the Ministry of Defence does not automatically endorse your text in its entirety.

Other things to bear in mind

  • Patent and trademark rights. You cannot, for example, simply reproduce organisation names, logos and slogans.
  • You must also consider the rights of others, such as privacy and portrait rights. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies to photos and videos in which individuals can be clearly identified. Strict rules apply in this regard, and you must request permission via mcd@mindef.nl.
