NATO demonstrates maritime striking power in Baltic Sea

Last week, a large military presence comprising over 6,000 military personnel from 21 countries gathered in the Baltic region. This is the scene of the annual maritime-oriented NATO exercise Baltic Operations (BALTOPS).

The BALTOPS 23 programme includes exercises for air defence and amphibious operations. His majesty’s ships Makkum, Vlaardingen and Van Amstel are taking part in this 52nd edition of the exercise, which will end on 16 June.

Minister Ollongren: strengthening ties between Europe and Indo-Pacific absolutely vital

Last week, the Netherlands Minister of Defence, Kajsa Ollongren, stated that there is a clear need for closer cooperation between the European and Indo-Pacific countries. Ollongren made her remarks at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, the most important defence and safety conference in the Asian region.

Navy intercepts 241 kilos of drugs in the Caribbean

HNLMS Groningen recently intercepted 241 kilos of contraband. The operation took place in the night of 4 to 5 June, close to the Leeward islands. This was made public last week.

Young women on Curaçao complete special training

Last week, nine young women from Curaçao were received with applause at Suffisant Naval Barracks after they had successfully completed the first phase of the social training programme. It was an achievement to be proud of and the women were each awarded a beret for their efforts.
