The times call for us to be brave again, says minister at march-past
During the Liberation Day march-past in Wageningen, Minister of Defence Ruben Brekelmans said that through unity and determination, war has been kept at bay for 80 years. In his speech, he went on to say that the danger is closer now than it has been for years, and that the times call for us to be brave again, not because we want to go to war, but to protect the rare privilege of freedom.
About 50 soldiers who played a role in the liberation of the Netherlands 80 years ago attended the ceremony. Among them were veterans from the Netherlands, but also from Canada and the United Kingdom. We owe our freedom to them, the minister added.
