In practice, this means that 3.5% of gross domestic product (GDP) will be spent on defence annually. In addition, 1.5% of GDP will be invested in defence-related measures such as social resilience and infrastructure.

Navy vessels navigate towards readiness for maritime combat

HNLMS Van Amstel and HNLMS De Ruyter recently took part in the two-week Exercise Polaris. This large-scale French-led exercise took place in the Atlantic Ocean and the English Channel and involved all aspects of maritime combat. The exercise programme offered an excellent opportunity to train in a realistic and complex environment.
