A look at the Defence news 1 – 7 December

The Netherlands is to contribute an additional €250 million to military support for Ukraine via the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List. This American initiative allows NATO allies to acquire military materiel from US stocks in order to donate it to Ukraine.

It concerns weapons that Ukraine needs most urgently, such as air defence and F-16 ammunition, that cannot be supplied by other means.

Netherlands and Ukraine sign agreement for joint drone production

The Netherlands and Ukraine signed an agreement for the joint production of drones during the EU Informal Meeting of Defence Ministers in Brussels last week. By signing the agreement, Netherlands Minister of Defence Ruben Brekelmans and his Ukrainian counterpart Denys Sjmyhal were following up on the agreements made in October.

Dutch military personnel and air defence protect military hub in Poland

The Netherlands is currently protecting the logistics hub in Poland used for channelling equipment to Ukraine. It has deployed two Patriot anti-aircraft systems, a NASAMS unit, counter-drone systems and 300 military personnel for that purpose. The effort is part of NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine (NSATU). NATO countries supply military materiel to Ukraine from the hub in Poland. The Netherlands is responsible for security of the hub until 1 June 2026.
