Russian state hackers are adopting a new procedure in targeting individual Signal accounts: they steal Signal backups that contain stored messages and media files. US security services issued a warning regarding these new developments on 26 June.

The General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD) and the Defence Intelligence and Security Service (MIVD) have given their backing to the US warning, on the basis of their own investigations.

German-Netherlands headquarters in command of NATO troops in Estonia and Latvia

1 German-Netherlands Corps (1GNC) is now the tactical NATO headquarters for Estonia and Latvia. Last week, 1GNC took over this task from the Multinational Corps North East, which has shifted its focus to Lithuania and Poland. The deployment of a second tactical NATO headquarters in the region further strengthens NATO's eastern flank.

Defence supports Lebanon and Jordan

The Netherlands Armed Forces is lending support to the armed forces of Lebanon and Jordan by providing six training courses on strategic communication and civil-military cooperation. The courses are given four times over a two-year period. Last week, 119 course participants from the Middle East received their certificates after having successfully completed the two-week training block that started on 21 June.  

Netherlands puts amphibious task group on stand-by for NATO

Last week, the Netherlands assigned an amphibious task group to the NATO Allied Reaction Force. This rapid response force will be available for a full year for immediate deployment in defence of the NATO treaty area. The task group is capable of delivering Marine Corps combat units to shore from the sea.
